If I had a penny for every time I have heard this statement, I would not be sat here typing this blog and instead would be basking on a far away beach, living a billionaire lifestyle!  Adding to the billionaire lifestyle penny a throw coffers, would be other comments, like “they are all the same” and “the system is rigged” or “this town is already lost”.

The fact is, people are simply kidding themselves that it is OK not to bother going to the polling station to vote!  Because the system is NOT rigged, and some parties ARE different, especially in towns that are MOST divided, but far from lost.

As you scrolled down to this blog post, on this website, you past a series of counters that broke down the borough statistics and then went further and broke down the Ward areas, where YOU live and where YOUR vote would be counted.  So don’t go telling me, that there is more of this or that type of demographic, and ‘that’ is the reason a particular party always win. I know who lives where and in what number.

I also know who is and is not voting, by name and address!

You see, as an official Electoral Commission registered political party, we have access to exactly what the three usual suspects have access to.  Which is a thing called the ‘marked’ register.  It tells us who votes by post, who votes in person and where they live and which polling station they use. You can then compare it to last years and the years before that, as you see the same names and the same addresses, voting consistently and invariably for the same party.  It also allows us to see those that go year after year, failing to go and vote!

What it does not tell us is how they voted, because that is a matter for their conscience as they look around their town and see the state of it!

I make a point of knocking on doors of those that don’t bother voting and guess what, they are kidding themselves and living in an illusion.  I often open the conversation with a comment like “how do you thing the town is doing” and it then always goes exactly the same way, as they respond about how unhappy they are with the state of the place.  How they don’t feel safe on the streets anymore and the bins and the potholes and the lack of swings in the park.  Huge lists of grievances and dissatisfaction with how their council that they elect are doing!

So then I ask if they vote and they always say “yes I vote every time without fail” in a voice of righteous indignation, that I could possibly ask such a thing, from someone with such obvious a civic pride, who has just spent five minutes telling me all that is wrong with their town!

What they don’t realise is that I already know they did NOT vote last time, or the time before, or the time before that and before that.  I also now know they are living in some kind of alternate reality world, where they believe they are doing something about all those things that make them unhappy and miserable, by voting to try and change it!

Yet in reality they are doing nothing but complain to a listening ear about (Insert one of those penny statements here)

The only way you can get your streets clean, the council tax capped, the vanity projects and wasted money spent by your council stopped, or safe streets, is to go and vote the deadwood out.  Until you break that habit of NOT BOTHERING, and it is a habit now you have failed to vote three times.  Then nothing will change.

The three usual suspects will not knock on your door, no matter what those pictures they put out on social media suggest, of them canvassing in the rain suggest.  They don’t knock on the doors of those that don’t vote, because they want you to continue NOT voting!

Why?

Because if they are already winning and you are not voting then your ‘no-show’ is actually worth a vote for them, as it fails to cancel out one, they already have in the bag!

What do the three usual suspects fear the most?

YOU actually going out and voting for someone other than them, because that is the ONLY way they can ever lose!
