Rochdale

Rochdale is a large town in Greater Manchester, at the foothills of the South Pennines in the dale on the River Roch, 5.3 miles (8.5 km) northwest of Oldham and 9.8 miles (15.8 km) northeast of Manchester. It is the administrative centre of the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, which had a population of 211,699 in the 2011 census.

Located within the historic boundaries of the county of Lancashire. Rochdale’s recorded history begins with an entry in the Domesday Book of 1086 under “Recedham Manor”. The ancient parish of Rochdale was a division of the hundred of Salford and one of the largest ecclesiastical parishes in England, comprising several townships. By 1251, Rochdale had become important enough to have been granted a Royal charter.

Rochdale Town Hall, a Grade I listed building, dates from 1871 and is one of the United Kingdom’s finest examples of Victorian Gothic revival architecture.

Local Issues

Clean Air Zone

clean air zone

Political awareness was recently jolted into a state of being ‘wide awake’ as the Metro Mayor Andy Burnham announced the roll out of the Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone. (CAZ)

With signage going up all over the Metropolitan area, growing anger and frustration resulted in the formation of a Facebook Group called (RETHINK the Clean Air Zone – Greater Manchester).  It soon attracted many thousands of new members to the group and became a focal point for resistance against the LABOUR Mayors scheme.

Unsafe Streets

unsafe streets

Safe Streets are becoming a distant memory with the incessant rise of street crime and it is easy to allow yourself to slip into ‘armchair mode’ as you read about violent knife attacks on our once safe streets.

Street muggings, knife attacks, car theft, drug dealing and the most hideous of them all, the sexual assault and rape of lone women, in broad daylight on our streets.

Fly Tipping

fly tipping

As the relocation of asylum seekers and refugees, continues apace! With the private, rented sector, in most deprived towns booming. The finer detail and impact of fly-tipping, failure to observe basic recycling procedures, continues to be ignored, by most, if not all local councils.

The outcome can be seen on almost every street in Oldham and indeed every other street in neighbouring boroughs as the fly-tipping explosion continues to grow and grow.
