Ashton Hurst is an electoral ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside. It elects three Councillors to Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council using the first past the post electoral method, electing one Councillor every year without election on the fourth.
The population of Ashton Hurst is just smaller than the Tameside average of 11,796 people. 59% of this population is between the ages of 16 and 64 years old, which is less than the borough average of 62%. Since 2013, the under 16 and over 65 age groups have increased in size, while the working age population has decreased by almost 100 people.
