Longdendale is an electoral ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside. It elects three Councillors to Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council using the first past the post electoral method, electing one Councillor every year without election on the fourth.
The population of Longdendale is smaller than the Tameside average of 11,796 people. 60.5% of this population is between the ages of 16 and 64 years old, which is less than the borough average of 62%. Since 2013, the under 16 and over 65 age groups have both increased in size by around 100 people, while the working age population has been stagnant.
The majority of properties in Longdendale are owner occupied, with average market sale prices below the Tameside average of £139,412. The percentage of private rented homes in Longdendale is lower than the Tameside average of 14.2%.
Longdendale is more deprived than the Tameside average; the IMD deprivation score for Longdendale is 33.0, which is higher than the borough’s average score of 28.8. The proportion of children living in poverty is 34.0%, is 4.5% above the Tameside average.
